DIY: Folded Cupcake Liner Flower

Muffin Tin Mom has captured our hearts with this tutorial that turns everyday cupcake liners into adorable flowers.  We just can't get enough of paper flowers, and these are right on par with that idea.  She has TONS of other tutorials, so check it out!

After school when she came home, she wanted to make one of her very own folded cupcake liner flower. So, we did. I was very careful to explain how hot glue works. It was definitely a moment I will never forget as I remember the first time I used a hot glue gun with my mom. We worked together to create her flower, folding the muffin liners around a paper circle and adding a button.

Proud of her work.

I attached an alligator clip to the back using hot glue, so she could put it in her hair.

If there was a bonus, it would be that the pack of muffin liners was $1 at Dollar Tree. The clips were around $2.99 at Michaels (without a coupon), so with the items I had on hand, this project was around $2-4.

I cannot take credit for this idea. I was inspired by a several posts:

DIY: Felt Poinsettia Hair Clip

Projectville has a fantastic tutorial that we found just in time for the upcoming holiday season!  This stunning Poinsettia Hair Clip would be the perfect accessory for any wardrobe in the winter time and beyond.  Not to mention she is stunning herself...

Here's what you'll need:

• felt
• yarn
• scissors
• hot glue gun
• glue sticks for said gun
• hair clip (optional)

Follow the picture tutorial and pattern. The larger circle in the pattern is used to glue all the petals to. Start with the biggest petals around the outside, then medium sized, then smallest in the middle. The smaller circle is for after you glue the top of your clip to the flower. Open the clip, glue it to the back of the flower, then glue the small circle over the top of the open clip to clean up the look. Tah dah!

All you need is a hair comb and embroidery floss.
Doesn't get much easier or budget friendly, now does it?

Wrap in a V-shape pattern. Tuck ends under the next color and tie off the last piece.

Hair Bow Holder Tutorial

U Create has an amazing and practical way of creating a DIY Hair Bow Holder using a frame and some ribbon!  Be sure to check out their website for more fun crafts!

I went to Goodwill on a mission:

To find the funkiest frame I could find...

Hello?!! FOUND IT!
A little glossy turquoise spray paint please.

Oh my goodness, I love those details.
Okay, this frame would look fabulous on anything but I have something particular in mind.

Flip the frame over and measure ribbon to stretch from top to bottom with a little extra and hot glue (I'd use a staple gun if your frame is made of wood) the ribbon, evenly spaced (mine are about 2 inches apart) to the top.
Then, when the glue is dry, glue it (or staple it) straight to the bottom of the frame. Let dry and finally, attach all of those little girly hair bows that are floating around your house
Seriously, so easy my friends.

WA LA, you have a "funky bow holder thingy".
It's like art with a purpose... I love multi-tasking!
Ooooh, I just had another idea...
Oh my goodness, I'm off to Goodwill, I need another funky frame quick!

Happy crafting!

Braided Headband Tutorial

MaryJanes and Galoshes blog has a wonderful braided fabric headband tutorial.  It has minimal materials and it's budget friendly!

What you need:
Thick hair tie
Six 1" strips of fabric
Bulldog clip or safety pin
Sewing machine (or needle and thread)
Fabric tac

I ripped my fabric strips so they were a bit frayed on the edges, personal choice.  Clip three strips together and braid. Did I mention this is going to be really easy! Your braids should be about 6 inches short of going around your head.

Tack each end of the braid just enough that it doesn't come undone .

Then tack both braids together on each end, be careful not to twist the braids.

Cut your hair tie so it's one strip of elastic.

Sandwich your elastic ends between the ends of your braids on each end, again, careful not to twist the braids.

Sew over the elastic so that it's secure.  With a scrap of your fabric, wrap the ends of the braids for a finished look.  I used fabric tac for this.

Your done!

Flower Headband Tutorial

We just love the headband tutorial from Ador's blog and wanted to make it today's feature!  Headbands are still the rage and making your own is even better.  This craft is gorgeous, easy, fun, and CHEAP (which we just "adore")!

Want more info and crafts?  Check out her blog!

Supplies:
-Flower petal template- located HERE
-Sheer fabric
-Felt
-Permanent fabric glue
-Headband (wide bands work best)
-Scissors
-Cardstock

What to do:
-Print the template on cardstock and cut out
-Trace template onto fabric: 12 Large, 20 Medium, 3 Small

To make a large flower:
Fold in half.

Fold in half again.
Make a few quick stitches to hold in place.
Cut a small circle of felt.
Sew the folded petals to the edge of the felt circle.

Sew 8 petals around the edge and 4 petals in the center, then fluff.
Repeat steps to make the medium flower.

Use small dots of permanent fabric glue to attach the large flower to the side of the headband.

Attach the medium size flower above the larger flower, towards the center.

Now all you have to do is attach petals down the sides.
